Prisoner Custody Officer (PCO)

Role Responsibility

Creating a safe and positive environment for all, your role will involve supporting a diverse range of residents with their rehabilitation, helping them to help themselves and break their cycle of reoffending. Part of a professional team that keeps our prison running smoothly, you will be expected to maintain the basic safety and security standards required within a prison environment. This includes supervising meals, escorting residents to education and recreational activities and always ensuring the health & safety of all on site.

The Ideal Candidate

Your attitude is all-important. If you’re responsible, reliable and honest, we can teach you the rest. Someone who always treats people fairly and with respect, you must be cool under pressure with the ability to stick to the rules, get things done and deal with challenging situations. Your eye for the little details will enable you to quickly spot things like changes in moods or if something isn’t quite right, so you can stop incidents before they happen. Dependable and straight talking with a consistent approach, you should also be true to your word and great at connecting with and building trust with all kinds of people.

Recruitment process:

Full completion of application form on Sodexo careers website by Tuesday 25th June 2019 (You must have completed the online security questionnaire and have a CV uploaded or your application will automatically be rejected)

A short fitness test will take place on either Thursday 27th June or Sunday 30th June. This will involve completing a bleep test and the result does not mean you will not progress to interview as it will not be an automatic pass or fail.

Face to face interviews will take place during the weeks commencing 8th and 15th July 2019

Start Date of course: 2nd September (you must not have any holidays booked between 2nd September and 29th November 2019 due to the training course you must complete.)

If you are unable to attend any of the dates for fitness test, interview or have holidays during the training that cannot be cancelled, we will be unable to proceed with your application as no further dates will be available to rearrange your attendance.

If you have been interviewed for this role within the last 12 months, your application will not be proceeded with.

Package Description

£22,700 rising to £23,312 after 12 months following successful probation and assessment of skills.
